06/04/22 - 13th Annual Environmental Film Festival
A true community event, Schiff's Environmental Film Festival features inspiring environmental films and serves as a venue for community to gather, raises funds for Schiff, and promote learning and discussion of important environmental issues. Thanks to the generous support of our sponsors, the proceeds from this event help Schiff in achieving its mission. We thank all our past attendees and sponsors.
The night of the festival, the Wood Badge Lodge is transformed into a wonderful Woodland Theatre. Winner of Best Short Documentary at Ashland Independent Film Festival and the Audience Award for Documentary Short at the Bend Film Festival, the feature, "Giants" tells the story of a neighborhood that fought to stop a developer from cutting down three massive Sequoia trees to build a house. The film brings a fresh look into local activism and highlights the importance of community organizing. Directed by Luz Carasa. Produced by Luz Carasa and Connor Stava.
After watching the films, Chris Neff, Director of Communications at NJ Audubon and Mendham's own celebrated wildlife photographer, will facilitate a discussion on the balancing act that is in play between proposed development and community and environmental interests. We look forward to Chris' expertise and insights and a lively discussion on how we can be sensitive to the pressures for development while also becoming informed on how to influence development.
This event is held outdoors and thus guests are encouraged to arrive early to allow time for registration, hike, or hayride to the venue, and are encouraged to pack a light dinner, beverages, and proper attire for comfort.
